Therapeutic Yoga

Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I would like to see you living in better conditions.
– Hafiz.

There is growing evidence that yoga can be an effective for lowering anxiety, overcoming depression, and enhancing self-esteem. With its emphasis on developing a compassionate, supportive, and playful relationship to our own experience, yoga can help us feel more at home in our own skin, both physically and emotionally.

The emphasis in therapeutic yoga is on gentle (“restorative”) postures and breath work, aimed at either calming the body and mind (for anxiety), or enhancing energy, increasing positive feelings, and altering negative self-talk (for depression). In teaching therapeutic yoga, I draw on my experience as a yoga teacher and a clinical psychologist. Therapeutic yoga is offered both individually and in small groups.
