Yoga for Climbers (and other Athletes)

Yoga is a system, scientifically proven to boost your climbing ability significantly. Why do you think you always see that Guru figure sitting on the top of the mountain? You think he/she got there by enlightenment ? -Lg.

Climbing requires strength, flexibility, balance, and sustained focus. Yoga for Climbers targets each of these areas. We will emphasize the particular muscles used (and overused) by climbers, utilize counter-poses to strength underutilized muscles as a way of preventing injuries, and focus on creating greater flexibility in a safe and anatomically sound way. Using yoga as a form of moving meditation, the class will enhance your ability to sustain mental focus over an extended period of time, an essential skill when doing longer climbs.

Look for my class at MetroRock in Everett, MA, where I teach every Wednesday from 7:30-8:45. MetroRock also offers yoga classes Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, always from 7-8. For additional resources on yoga for climbers, please the “Resources” link of this website.

I also teach a heated Vinyasa Flow class at Brooklyn Boulders in Somerville every Tuesday evening, from 7:15-8:30.  Brooklyn Boulders has a beautiful new yoga studio, with a wide variety of yoga and fitness classes available throughout the week.
